The structure looks stretching out to cling to an imposing keep,
which is the oldest element of the fortress. D'Alessandro Castle, noiselessly
overlooking the Castel Di Sangro-Lucera cattle-track, clearly shows the
epoch-making alterations which a former lombard fortress underwent.
It underwent further alterations both in the 15th century, and
when D'Alessandro family purchased it in 1594. A woodshed, some stables and some
storehouses were located in the outer courtyard, which was furthermore
embellished with a new entrance and a loggia to refine the south side.
The Palatine Chapel was built up in the Castle in the 17th
century and an important pottery factory was started in the following century.
Nowadays a bridge, overlooking a frightening drop, leads into the square shaped
castle. The 60% of the castle belong to the Provincial Administration of
Isernia, while the remaining 40% is property of D'Alessandro descendants.
